"Great for small libraries" Posted 2022-05-10
Pros: Free version, low cost for LMS, discount for non-profits. Easy self-checkout, auto-adds info for books, music, and movies. There are some reports, and recent updates have helped with many features. It's web-based, so it can be accessed from any device. There is an app for phones that allows managers to check-in and out from anywhere as well as search the catalog. Can scan or use CSV to upload items. Can use CSV or manually input patrons. Can set up separate "libraries" to manage different areas or types of items.
Cons: Patron management isn't easy (although it has improved in the last year). Doesn't use MARC records (book info is imported or user-contributed). Reports are limited.
Overall: I run a small school library (about 1000 physical books plus a few devices). The cost is less than 100 dollars (one manager sign-in) because we are non-profit. It works well for our building and allows for easy student self-checkout. The building has between 750-800 students each year with about 1/3 of the student body changing each year. I would recommend this for small libraries (churches, small school libraries, personal libraries, and classroom libraries). I would not recommend this for larger libraries.
